Berks Counseling Center is a recovery-oriented behavioral health, physical health, and supportive services organization providing a holistic approach to a culturally and economically diverse population for the purpose of achieving a healthy and productive lifestyle.

The person in this position will be responsible for providing a broad array of crisis supports for patients of Berks Counseling Center. This would include the provision of services on site and in the community. Close collaboration with community hospitals, rehabs, and our crisis DCO are additional responsibilities of this position.

Responsibilities

- Provide screening, assessment, and evaluation of patients experiencing a crisis, either on site, on the phone, or in the community.
- Determine severity of each crisis call or encounter.
- Record crisis phone calls in a Critical Incident Log and complete Critical Incident Report.
- Refer patients to community-based emergency response systems or other appropriate services.
- Work collaboratively with SAM, TASC, hospital emergency departments, inpatient treatment facilities, and law enforcement.
- Meet with patients in crisis when primary counselor is not available.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree Candidates: At least one (1) year direct counseling experience (or relevant internship) and ability to get PCB certification within one year required.

Master’s Degree Candidates: Master's degree in a related social service field, and at least three (3) months direct counseling experience (or relevant internship) preferred.

All Candidates: Valid PA Driver’s License and the ability to drive, travel and provide community-oriented services required, bi-lingual: English/ Spanish preferred. CAC a plus. Knowledge of or experience with trauma-informed approaches preferred. LSW, LCSW, or LPC applicants with counseling experience in drug, alcohol and/or mental health preferred.

All offers of employment are contingent upon the following: 1) Receipt of results of a satisfactory drug and alcohol screening test. 2) Receipt of the originals of the following background checks: PA State Police Criminal History, PA State Child Abuse, and DPW FBI Criminal History. These clearances must be valid within the 12 months prior to employment. A conviction is not a bar to employment; however, a review will be conducted to make a determination of employment should a conviction be present. 3) Receipt of original documentation and verification of relevant degrees, diplomas, certificates, or licensure. 4) Confirmation that you are not on the OIG Federal Healthcare Program Exclusion from Participation list. Should you appear on this list, Berks Counseling Center is prohibited from employing you.
