Functions as peer support specialist for returning citizens who are being released from Lancaster County Prison. This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday daytime with some weekends or evenings as needed.

Responsibilities

Must utilize personal lived experience to support and guide individuals as they establish themselves in the community
Must be able to engage and build rapport with inmates pre-release and work with prison re-entry team to establish recovery/ reentry plan and prepare inmate for release.
Completes a “warm handoff” process at the time of inmate release and continue with supportive peer work in the community
Conduct assessments and evaluations of individuals involved in the criminal justice system
Provide crisis intervention and support to individuals experiencing mental health or behavioral health issues
Develop/ implement Recovery Plans for clients based on their specific needs and goals
Collaborate with other professionals, such as Adult Probation, Community Social Services, and Drug & Alcohol Treatment and Recovery services
Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to engage clients in the recovery process
Provide education and support to clients' families and caregivers
Maintain accurate and confidential client records

Qualifications

Must be able to obtain clearances from Lancaster County to work in the Adult Probation office and the County Prison. Must be willing to disclose ALL past charges. Many are acceptable as long as they are more than 3 years old. May not have ANY open charges and MUST be off probation for at least 1 year.
Completes and maintains security training for the Lancaster County Prison and can successfully complete a background screening.
Must be able to supply professional letters of support/reference from a minimum of 3 sources.
Must have or agree to obtain a PA State Certified Recovery Specialist designation within 1 year of hire
Relevant experience in crisis management, addiction recovery, or mental health counseling preferred
Must understand medication-assisted recovery, including suboxone, Subutex, Sublocade, and methadone treatment and must be able to provide supportive services in an unbiased manner that respects individual choice.
Strong understanding of behavioral health issues and treatment modalities
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work and communicate effectively in a team setting
Familiarity with community resources and referral networks
Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines
Must have a strong personal support system in place.
Must have a valid PA Driver’s License
Must have a minimum of 1 year of personal recovery
Must have experience with direct peer support
