Program: COPE, Community Outreach & Prevention Education
Certified Recovery Specialists are drug and alcohol peers in recovery who have been trained to help others move into and through the recovery process. As a Certified Recovery Specialist, an individual accepts and agrees that his/her experience as a person in recovery from a substance use condition will be known by their colleagues, persons served, and others with whom he/she may share that they have achieved this credential. A person with lived experience must attest that he/she has personal, lived recovery experience in a continuous manner for a minimum of 18 months to be eligible for the Certified Recovery Specialist credential.
Role Description: In this role the Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS) educate the individual, family, and community about the disease of addiction and the recovery process. They will engage families to support their loved one through the recovery process. A person with lived experience must attest that he/she has personal, lived recovery experience in a continuous manner for a minimum of 18 months to be eligible for the CRS credential. Additional education in drug and alcohol counseling, psychology, social work, and health fields/nursing are preferred but not required.
Responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:
• Recovery Specialists will conduct self in an ethical manner by adhering to the Certified Recovery Specialist code of ethics
and standards of practice, maintain confidentiality regarding information received during the facilitation of recovery
support services, continue personal growth through active participation in the recovery process, and engage in
continuing professional development relative to recovery support services.
• As a CRS, an individual accepts and agrees that his/her experience as a person in recovery from a substance use condition will be known by their colleagues, persons served, and others with whom he/she may share that they have achieved this credential.
• Provide services as defined by the program description, best practice standards and in
full compliance with licensure standards and Recovery Model Principles.
• Assist consumers in development and implementation of Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP).
• Provide assistance to the program coordinator as well as providing assistance/education in
areas of medications, budgeting, self-care and supportive counseling to the program residents.
• Monitor effectiveness of own service delivery based on outcome measures including Quality of
Life Inventory, consumer satisfaction surveys, and treatment/service reviews. As needed, make
changes to own service delivery to improve outcomes.
• Develop and implement service plans as per program description.
• Develop and maintain linkages with adjunct providers to coordinate consumer services.
• Identify resources which are accessible and beneficial to clients and encourage their utilization.
• Intervene appropriately in crisis situations.
• Provide instruction and hands-on support to promote development of skills identified in service plans.
• Support consumers in maintaining healthy relationships and resolving conflicts.
• Must be compassionate, flexible and knowledgeable of Supportive counseling.
• Must be willing to assist with skill building including “occasional hands on”.
• Maintain accurate records of billable services provided and submit records in a timely
manner as dictated by the program.
• Complete other responsibilities as assigned by direct supervisor.
Minimum Education Required: High School Diploma or GED certificate.
Minimum Experience Required: Current or former recipient of drug and alcohol services (any setting) and a willingness to acknowledge this experience to consumers and others as appropriate. Must be in recovery for minimally 18 months (DOCUMENTED PROOF REQUIRED).
Preferred: Experience with Dual Diagnosis such as Mental Health and Drug Abuse. Additional education in drug and alcohol counseling, psychology, social work, and health fields/nursing are preferred.
Certifications: Recovery Specialist Certification or CRS Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
Required Clearances: Pennsylvania Child Abuse clearance (if working in adolescent residential program), Criminal clearance, and Fingerprint based federal criminal history; Valid Driver’s License and Verification that employee is not on any Medicaid/Medicare Exclusion list.

Holcomb offers a generous benefit package to all employees who work a minimum of 30 hours per week. Some benefits are available to employees working between 25-29 hours per week.
